Lamp of Murmuur

Black metal has many faces and as it happens – so does Lamp of Murmuur.

The enigmatic, LA-based M. loves black metal in all its multifariousness. This is why Lamp of Murmuur embraces many subtypes of the genre, following the dictum that ‘opposites attract.’

Gothic? Dungeon synths? Atmospheric arpeggios? You name it. There’s nothing beyond the realm of possibility here.

History:

The beginnings of Lamp of Murmuur date back to early 2019. M. (also known for the ambient black metal Silent Thunder) started a project that allowed him to peruse and pursue freely across the realm of the genre.

He started out intense, since in a little over a year he recorded five demos, a split album as well as a full-length debut LP – “Heir of Ecliptical Romanticism”. All of this material, though, found the artist orbiting around underground black metal, which made space for rawness, dungeon synth’s influence and the melancholy of the melodic incarnations of the genre.

Lamp of Murmuur’s real breakthrough at the black metal scene came with the 2021 “Submission and Slavery”. The album’s infusion of classic black metal with the vampiric gothic rock and punchy post-punk proved sensational on stage and led to the intensive touring of the band.

Lamp of Murmuur’s latest record, “Saturnian Bloodstorm“(2023), turned out to be another shift, for it is an album full of chill, abundant with melodies and thrash influences. Though, this time, without gothic inclinations.
