Space, contrasts, and the wall of sound – these are the key components of Dvne. For over a decade now, the Scottish band has been capturing the hearts of the fans with their ambitious but hardly overintellectualized sound. Although the Metal Blade-signed band sports the progressive element, they don’t heap their music with solos – rather, they craft complex compositions. These foundations are then fortified with the ultra-heaviness of sludge and trance-like post-metal and they sound so majestic you won’t even notice when your jaw hits the floor.
History:
Dvne was formed in 2017 in Scotland and its name was taken from one of the masterpieces of science fiction literature, “Dune”. Inspired by Frank Herbert, from the beginning the artists were making music with a vast cosmic universe in mind. After all, this motivation has stayed with them to a lesser or bigger extent.
Within their first year as a band, they recorded their debut album, “Asheran”. The emotionally tormented progressive hybrid of post and sludge metal did marvels in the ears of listeners. The band immediately began to tour across Europe and the USA with formations such as Eyehategod, Inter Arma or High on Fire.
The band was on the rise, but the pandemic threw a spanner in the works. Nonetheless, even when faced with such obstacles, Dvne did not back down. In 2021, they released their sophomore album, “Etemen Ænka”, which earned the four-piece band the Best Metal award from the Scottish Alternative Music Awards.
The British ensemble’s latest record is the 2022 live album “Cycles of Asphodel”.
