- DAY: 06.06
- STAGE: Desert Stage
- GENRE: alternative rock, stoner rock
- COUNTRY: Sweden
Though Gaupa is a stoner band, don’t mistake them for a band that has little to offer but riff worship and a sandy sound. The surrealist journey the young Swedish band has embarked on leads through terrain a lot less obvious. Alongside the already mentioned stoner, you’ll find in their arsenal the echoes of the 70s progressive rock madness, the slacker vibrations of the late 90s alternative rock and Emmy Näslund’s ethereal vocals with a tinge of pop. Keep them on your radar, they’re already well on their own to become a mainstream sensation.
History:
Gaupa was formed in 2018 in Falun, Sweden. Armed in a full suit of various inspirations and with a clear musical vision in mind, for Gaupa stoner rock has always been just the starting point, never the destination. And it didn’t take them long to start in earnest.
In the same year, the group debuted with a self-titled EP, presenting a stylistic hybrid so out of the ordinary that it quickly drew the attention of audiences and media. The EP was repeatedly played by rock radio stations across the globe and Gaupa toured across Sweden. One of the tour stops was the biggest guitar music festival in Sweden – the Sweden Rock Festival.
In 2019, the Scandi formation was still on the prowl on various festival stages and club venues, and during the 2020 pandemic, they released their debut album “Feberdröm”. Despite the unfortunate date of release, Nuclear Blast went on a promotional blitz and in 2021, the band returned to the studio. The effect of their hard work was their even better-received sophomore album from 2022, “Myriad”.
Since then, the band fronted by the charismatic Emmy Näslund has been touring like never before. We highly recommend getting a taste for yourselves at Mystic Festival.
