Sznur

Sznur = black metal filled to the brim with evil, hatred towards humanity, and everything that’s the absolute worst and simultaneously, black metal that’s painfully ‘ours’ due to its atmosphere and lyrical content. Though this Lower Silesian band boasts riffs like Darkthrone or Satyricon and references the tradition left by the second wave of black metal, the band’s aesthetics are Polish through and through – think Odraza and getting vodka-drunk, pavements dredged with cigarette butts and the greyness of concrete slab blocks of flats. They have our star of approval – their live performance is the equivalent of getting knocked out senseless in a shady alley.

History:

Sznur was born in 2017 in Lower Silesia and initially, the band was just the solo project of Seth (of Moontower’s fame). Therefore, the band’s debut record released in 2018 was also his solo endeavour. In 2019, however, the project became a full-fledged band. The black metal played by the Godz ov War artists from the beginning was all about paying tribute to the second wave, occasionally taking a detour into punk territories or, for counterbalance, the land of doom metal. The three subsequent albums released by the band were very well-received and their latest record, “Ludzina”, was listed as one of the best Polish metal albums of 2023 by Gazeta Wyborcza.
